Victory
for Manny Pacquiao (vs. David Diaz)
"Lethal Combination"
Pacquiao vs.
Diaz, Las Vegas
Date: June 28, 2008
On June 28, 2008, WBC Super Featherweight Champion
Manny Pacquiao stepped into the ring weighing 135 pounds,
his first time ever at this level, for the WBC Lightweight
division title. With this win, Manny would hold both the
WBC Super Featherweight AND the WBC Lightweight titles,
and win he did. According to David Diaz, it was all about
Manny's speed. The punches were just too fast.
That speed for Manny Pacquiao would prove true with a
ninth round left handed knockout. Infact referee Vic Drakulich
stopped the bout before even counting to 10.
Manny was quoted as saying that he felt stronger and more
powerful at 135 pounds. He also indicated that he wants
to stay at the level.
Who will he fight next? It all depends on whether he stays
at this weight, bulks up to 140 pounds, or drops to 130
pounds.
Manny is dubbed as "Republica Enemy No. 1,"
currently 47-3-2, 35 KOs, from General Santos City, Philippines.
Manny Pacquiao was named 2006 Fighter of the Year by the
Boxing Writers Association of America.
